Abu Salem convicted in Builder Pradeep Jain Murder Case

Special Terrorist and Disruptive Activities (Prevention) Act court on Monday, 16th February 2015, has convicted gangster Abu Salem in the 1995 Pradeep Jain Murder case. According to police, Abu Salem has got Pradeep Jain killed over a property dispute.

Pradeep Jain, a mumbai based builder, was shut dead outside his juhu bungalow on 7th march 1995 after he allegedly refused to part with his huge property to Salem.

Salem, another builder Virendra Jhamb and Mehndi Hassan were on trial in Pradeep Jain’s murder case which began in 2008. Salem and other two accused were found guilty. While accused Naeem Khan turned approver, another accused Riyaz Siddiqui, who had also become approver, later turned hostile in the court.

This is the first judgement in a case where Abu Salem has been convicted involving him after he was deported to India. Arguments for the quantum of punishment will take place on Tuesday.

Gangster Abu Salem is an accused in the 1993 Mumbai serial blasts case. He was extradited from Portugal on 11th November 2005 after a prolonged legal battle and is since in judicial custody.‎

In June 2012, Salem was shot at in Taloja Central jail in Navi Mumbai allegedly by gangster Devendra Jagtap alias JD, an accused in the murder case of advocate Shahid Azmi who had represented a 26/11 Mumbai attack accused.
