How to apply and track your PAN online – For Indian citizen

PAN or permanent account number is allotted by income tax department. It’s a unique number which not only represents your tax account with income tax department but also works as an identity card in many places.

Now a day’s PAN is mandatory in many places before you start doing any particular financial transactions. Without a PAN card your employer will not pay you salary if it exceeds the basic exemption limit of income tax and banks will also not allow you to deposit more than Rs. 50000 at a time.

Now the question is how to get this PAN allotted. You can apply for PAN in following two ways.

  • Through a TIN FC – PAN authorized centers

Applying PAN card Online

Before you apply for PAN card, you need to keep ready certain things as it will be required in the process while filling up your application form. Here are the details that you need to keep with yourself before you start;

  • Credit card information or net banking ID and password
  • Date of birth details

To apply for your pan card online, now please visit TIN NSDL site. NSDL is a government organization which takes care of PAN process and allotment of PAN to you. Select “category of applicant” from the drop down below the screen. In our case we will be discussing above an individual. If you are applying PAN card for your company then you can select “company” from the drop down.

Form 49A is very easy to fill up except one that is filling up your AO code. AO code for PAN application can be searched based on your city where you are located. How to apply for a PAN and track your PAN card online – For Indian citizen

Fill up the application with all correct details. Cross check your name and address with the supporting documents that you will provide along with it. Process your application form by clicking on submit bottom available below the screen.

After successful processing of the application you have to take a print out of the acknowledgement and affix your recent photo and send the signed form along with all the documents to the following address. Envelope in which you are sending the application form must be super scribe with “APPLICATION FOR PAN – your acknowledgement number here”.

Please remember you have to send this signed application along with all other details within 15 days from the date of submitting it online.

Tracking PAN card Application Status online

After submitting your PAN application form an acknowledgement number will be displayed which can also be seen from the print out that you have taken to send it to IT Pan Service’s unit. With that number now you can track your pan card status online. If you have forgotten your acknowledgment number then instead of putting it you can try getting status of your PAN application with your Name and date of birth combination.
