IT department has provided a way to check your income tax credit online. All your taxes that you paid to IT department, TDS that has been deducted by your employer or payer, advance tax payments and refund if any will reflect in this statement called Form 26AS.
Before filling your IT return, you are required to check your income tax credit online by visiting tax department’s site. You can also check Form 26AS from your net banking account or TIN website. By cross checking form 26AS with your form 16 or 16A you will be assured that tax that is showing in these statements are actually been deposited. You may also find some cases where form 16A is not issued but TDS deducted and deposited. You can use it and file your IT return based on the information shown.
In our following discussion you will find the way to check your income tax credit online by using income tax efilling website. Below are the steps to check form 26AS online.
To get started head on to Income tax efilling website and then look for the option of “view form 26AS”.
After selecting “view form 26AS” option you will be asked to login to income tax website to check your income tax credit online. If you are not registered till date then you can register yourself by selecting “register now”. You are required to enter your PAN number, Date of birth, fathers name, mobile number, email address and other details to get registered.
You will be immediately show a screen to confirm to view form 26AS.
After selecting confirm, you will be redirected to tdscpc site and a popped up screen will be asked you to agree the usage and acceptance of form 16/16A. Now accept it and move on to the next screen.
Click on “view tax credit (form 26AS)” from the down below of the screen as shown in the above picture.
After selecting the above option you will be shown form 26AS. Now, you can check your income tax credit online by selecting assessment year. For each assessment year you will be shown form 26AS online. You can even download form 26AS in PDF and text format.
Tax credit statement form 26AS confirms that the TDS deducted by the deductor has been deposited with the government. You can use this statement as a proof of tax deducted or collected on your behalf with IT department.
