Mumbai police’s anti-terror squad chief Mr. Rakesh Maria has been appointed as police commissioner of Mumbai. Mr. Maria’s appointment has been decided after a high level meeting at Maharashtra chief minister’s resident. He played a key role in Mumbai serial blast in 1993 and also in 26/11 attack on the city.
Mr. Maria has been appointed after the former commissioner Mr. Satyapal Sing’s resignation to join BJP. Mr. Rakesh is a 1981 batch IPS officer. Sing was the first Mumbai commissioner to resign. He was 59 years old before putting his resignation.
It seems like Mr. Maria’s post which remains vacant after becoming commissioner will be taken over by Mr. Himansu Roy.
