How to visit Nainital from Delhi – Travel Guide

Nainital is one of the best popular hill stations of India. Situated at a distance of 310 kilometres north east to Delhi, Nainital attracts tourists from all over the world for its natural beauty.

Nearest railway station to reach Nainital is Kathgodam. You can take ranikhet express from New Delhi which departs from New Delhi around 10:45PM and reaches at 5:50 AM in kathagodam. You also have trains like sampark kranit and shatabdi express from New Delhi railway station. During the peak seasons it’s very difficult to get a train to Nainital. So we suggest you to book your tickets at least before a month.

Nainital is also well connected by road. You have lots of busses from New Delhi which will take 8 hours to reach the place.

Time to visit Nainital

Nainital can be visited throughout the year. But the best time to visit this place is between March to June and from September to November. If you are looking for a snow fall then we suggest you to visit between December and January.

We suggest you not to visit between July and august month as this is the time when Nainital will have heavy rain and landslides.

Major tourist attractions of Nainital – Places to be Seen

Naini lake is the major attraction of Nainital. The north end of Naini lake is called Mallital and the southern end is tallital. You also have yachting, boating and paddling facilities at Naini Lake.

But you can also visit places like;

  • Naina Devi Temple
  • The Mall road or Govind Ballabh Pant Marg – Filled with hotels, restaurants, shopping centers, banks and travel agencies.
  • Govinda Ballabh Pant high altitude zoo – Closed on Monday and national holidays.
  • Snow View Point
  • Naina Peak
  • Tiffin Top

Aerial rope way or cable cars can be booked at mallital. These cable cars will take you to snow view point which is in 2275 mts above the sea level. From Snow view point you can have a majestic view of the entire Himalayan range. It opens seven days a week from 10 AM to 5 PM.

Most of the hotels are set around the Naini Lake which is very costly during the peak seasons. If you are looking for a cheaper one then we suggest you to take a hotel which is not nearer to the Lake.
