Zomato has acquired one of turkey’s largest popular restaurant discovery site Mekanist in all cash deal for an undisclosed amount. This is the seventh acquisition in the last 6 months after acquiring USA based Urbanspoon.
Before Urbanspoon acquisition, Zomato has acquired Italian restaurant site Cibando last month, polish restaurant site Gastronauci in September, Czech republic site Lunchtime.cz, Slovakia restaurant site Obdeovat.sk and New Zealand restaurant search site Manumania.
After acquiring Mekanist, Zomato will now cover over 50000 restaurants across Turkey. Mechanist website and mobile app content will also be integrated into Zomato’s.
Co-founder and CEO of Mekanish, Ali Servet Eyüboğlu, will lead the combined team in turkey.
Deepinder Goyal, founder and CEO of Zomato said “We’ve been growing rapidly globally, and Turkey has been at the forefront of this. When we entered Turkey a little over a year ago, we never imagined we’d develop such a strong foodie community and grow so quickly.”
In an interview to Reuters, Deepinder Goyal said that it was in talks to raise about USD 100 million in fresh funding from its existing as well as new investors.
Zomato which is founded in the 2008 is backed by private equity investors like Info edge india limited and Sequoia Capital. Zomato had launched in turkey in November 2013.
